I ♥ Summer Dresses

Instead of going to watch the hockey game with friends tonight, I opted to stay in and work on a bunch of dresses I'll be bringing to Headquarters tomorrow. It got me thinking about my own collection of summer dresses, and I realized something: to me, summer dresses are the one thing that never go out of style. In my opinion, a great summer dress is beautiful year to year, regardless of fashion trends.

I know that a lot of people are getting sick of the maxi dress this year, but my own saved my life last August in ridiculously hot Venice, when a mini would have left me sticking to everything I sat on! So I know for sure I'll be breaking that one out again this year.

m3s maxi dress, Venice, Italy, 2009.

I have a cute turquoise jersey dress with a pretty lace back- I don't know how many years ago I bought it, or even what store it came from, but I still think it's beautiful and happily wore it in Mexico this year. With a flower in my hair, of course.

Don't mind Patrick. Random jersey dress, Cancun, Mexico, 2010.

A floral mini dress from a Guess sample sale... four years ago?... is still one of my favourite non-m3s dresses in my closet.

Guess minidress, Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, 2008.

And then there are, of course, the new favourites, especially this one little beauty that makes me smile every time I look at it.

m3s sweetheart dress, Tulum, Mexico, 2010.

Anyway, my point is: I don't care what trends dictate- a nicely fitting summer dress in a pretty colour will ALWAYS have a place in my wardrobe.

Ruffles!!

Lately I have been completely in love with ruffles! I think it's amazing how textured detailing can make an otherwise simple piece so extraordinary and stunning. Dresses stand out beautifully with textured skirts, or highlight and complement your face with ruffles near the bust or shoulder. They're so feminine and romantic! I also adore ruffled tanks, which are super easy to dress up or down, and look fabulous with absolutely everything. Take a look at some of my Mes Trois Soeurs pieces reflecting this recent obsession.

And if you're interested, many of these are for sale at my online store.

Montreal shopping: Boutique Unicorn

I heard about Boutique Unicorn before I had actually been to the store. They agreed to carry Mes Trois Soeurs as soon as I spoke to them, but mentioned that they don't carry super-colourful clothing... it wasn't until I arrived that I realized that almost everything in the store is black or white! Unicorn does black in the chicest way imaginable- their selection of Canadian designers working with this monochromatic palette offers customers gorgeous detailing, luxurious fabrics, and flattering cuts. In the spring and summer, they work a handful of carefully chosen bright pieces into the store's stock to add a splash of colour to the predominantly black and white racks. They also have a great selection of accessories, shoes, and jewelry. These are pieces that fit into anyone's wardrobe- Unicorn is all about high quality, fashion-forward, accessible clothing. And black looks good on everyone! Designers include Colorblind Smarties, Eve Gravel, Dace, Uranium, and many more.

They also have a great blog that not only informs followers of new pieces arriving in the store, but also covers things that their Unigirls, as they call them, might like: music, videos, events, and photos of looks the bloggers love. I highly recommend following it.

They're located at 5135 St Laurent, near the corner of Laurier.
